Moon platform review

Moon costs you $1.00 to open a $100 wager at 10x and tops out at 1000x, where the move that closes you out is 0.100%.

The 1.0 per cent comes off the wager and not off the exposure, so a $100 wager costs you $1.00 to open whether you attach 2x or 1000x. What changes as you climb is the room you have: 50.000% of movement against you at 2x, and 0.100% at 1000x.

Moon publishes no product description, so the terms it does publish are what you have to go on: 5 asset classes (equities, exchange traded funds, cryptocurrency, metals, commodities), 1.0 per cent charged on the wager itself, a ceiling of 1000x and 9 published leverage levels from 2x to 1000x, against which you put up a wager, pick a direction and attach a multiplier.

who stands behind Moon

You cannot find out who stands behind Moon. It publishes no incorporation record, no licence statement and no list of countries it refuses, so the question of who holds your wager has no published answer. What it does publish is commercial, and every commercial figure below is traced to a Moon document.

the Moon ceiling is 1000x

Moon applies one ceiling to everything it lists, 1000x, with 9 published leverage levels from 2x to 1000x and no floor on that list. Because the fee is charged on the wager itself, the 1000x level costs you the same $1.00 to open as 2x does, and the only thing that changes as you climb is how far the market can move before you are closed out.

Moon charges 1.0% of the wager to open

You pay 1.0 per cent of the wager itself, when you open, with no closing charge documented either way (Moon fee documentation). On a $100 wager at 10x that is $1.00. Change your mind about the direction and you pay the 1.0 per cent again on the new one.

what a $100 wager costs you at each level

Your exposure is the wager multiplied by the multiplier, so $100 at 1000x controls $100,000. Breakeven is the move that just covers what you paid to open, and room is how far Moon lets the market go against you before the bet ends.

At every one of the 9 leverage levels: costs to open $1.00, round trip not documented, fee as share of room 1.00%.

Entry cost is 1.0% of the $100 stake, referral discount applied where one is published. Room is computed from the Moon maintenance rule. Where a rate varies by asset class both ends of the schedule are shown. Holding costs are excluded, so every figure is a floor.

what it costs you to hold a bet open

You cannot work out what it costs you to hold a bet open on Moon overnight. It takes a rolling charge every 8 hours and publishes no rate for it, so stay in for a day and you have paid something no figure here can tell you. Every Moon cost quoted below is a floor for that reason, correct as you open and wrong by an unknown amount by the time you leave.

the move that closes you out on Moon

A move of 10.000% against you ends a 10x bet on Moon, and 0.100% ends one at 1000x. The distance is one part in the multiplier, because it holds nothing back as a maintenance requirement (Moon on liquidation).

Moon keeps nothing back as a maintenance requirement, so room to liquidation equals initial margin at every leverage level.

the 5 asset classes Moon lists, and how many instruments

Moon names 5 asset classes (equities, exchange traded funds, cryptocurrency, metals, commodities) and never says how many instruments that comes to, so you cannot count what is tradeable before you open an account. You can see the class it lists, so check the app for your ticker before you plan a bet on anything specific.

getting money in and out of Moon

You cannot find out how money reaches or leaves a Moon account. It documents no settlement currency, no deposit route and no withdrawal route, which is worth weighing against a 1.0 per cent entry cost you can compute to the cent. It runs a play money mode with no deposit, so you can rehearse a multiplier before your wager moves.

whether a loss can exceed the wager

You cannot lose more than the wager on Moon (Moon terms on loss). At 1000x that ceiling is reached by a 0.100% move against you, on $100,000 of exposure funded by $100.

what the Moon referral gives you

Moon never states what its referral gives you, so no figure is attached to it here. It binds by link with the code MARKET, and what you can check either way is the 1.0% entry cost, the 1000x ceiling and a loss capped at the wager.

The Moon promo code page carries the eligibility and the exclusions in full.

verdict

Use Moon if you are holding for minutes and you want the multiplier up at 20x, where 1.0% of the wager is $1.00 whichever level you pick. Look elsewhere if you need to hold for days, because nothing Moon publishes lets you price that. Before you size anything, check what the wager is against what you can lose: $100 at 1000x puts $100,000 of exposure on a loss that stops at the wager.

Warning

20x is the ceiling, and it is not a safe one. At 20x a 5.000% move against you ends the bet; at 1000x it takes 0.100%.
