editorial policy
Two kinds of thing appear on this site. Measurements, which are computed from vendor price data and published without a person in the loop. And explanations of why a price moved, which are not published as explanations until a named person has read the source and put their name on it.
what is generated, and what that means
The per-market statistics and the sentences around them are produced by code from Twelve Data price data. Volatility, average true range, intraday excursion, liquidation distance, hit rates and the replay curves are arithmetic on bars. The prose that reports them is templated and varies with the numbers. Nobody writes each market page by hand, and claiming otherwise would be the easiest lie on the site to tell.
That is defensible for measurement and indefensible for causation. A volatility figure is right or wrong and you can check it. A reason a price moved is a claim about the world.
why it moved: four states, one of which needs a human
The block at the top of a market page reports one of four states, and the state is always visible.
| State | What it means | Who decided |
|---|---|---|
| Catalyst confirmed | A named person read the source, accepted that the event happened, and wrote the sentence that connects it to the move. | A person, on the record, with a timestamp |
| Filing on record, cause unconfirmed | A filing exists and landed in the window. The filing is stated as a fact. The causation is explicitly not asserted. | Code, from SEC EDGAR |
| No confirmed catalyst | The move is larger than normal for that instrument and nothing is on the record to explain it. The absence is reported rather than filled. | Code |
| Quiet | The move is ordinary for that instrument, so no catalyst was sought. | Code |
Headlines that cover an event already accepted by a reviewer appear as corroborating sources, marked as such. They never supply the causal sentence. A story cannot become the explanation by turning up alongside three others.
what we will not do
- Invent a reason for a price move, or imply one by placing a headline next to a number and leaving the reader to join them.
- Attribute analysis to a person who did not do it, or invent staff, credentials or first-hand testing.
- Publish a page for a ticker just because the ticker exists. Coverage is 45 instruments, chosen for liquidity and search demand.
- Create a fresh URL every day for every instrument. A permanent analysis page needs a material event and something original to say.
- Show a Moon link for an instrument nobody has verified is on Moon.
